ENJOY CLEANING - A FEW TIPS

Below are some nuggets of wisdom we have gathered over the years at Lilly's. We do hope they make your cleaning time a happy and rewarding one!

  • Good equipment is essential to make cleaning easy and enjoyable. Invest to a good vacuum cleaner, mop & bucket and cloths. Both your mop and vacuum cleaner should have a long enough extension to save your back from unnecessary strain. If you have pets in the house get a vacuum cleaner that has a special pet hair removing extension with a brush since it will make your life a lot easier! Always vacuum first, then dust and finally wash the floor.
  • A Few Good Cleaners Instead of having a grand selection of different cleaners which are suppose to make cleaning a magical Harry Potteresque experience- just a few spells and dirt is gone- purchase a range of products you really enjoy to use (effective & deliciously scented just like Lilly's eco clean range of products!) and that are also safe for your health and the environment. Less is more after all and you can't get the job done without elbow grease.
  • Freshen up your carpets with bread soda and a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Just sprinkle some scented bread soda on your carpet, leave for a few hours and vacuum. Stains in the carpet lift with Lilly's All Purpose Spray Cleaner, but do a patch test first. Pet accidents can be cleaned with the same cleaner, and I've been told that cats do not go back to the same spot. In fact, Lilly's All Purpose Spray Cleaner can be used all around the house; it is brilliant for dusting and polishing, but do not spray directly on waxed surfaces.
  • Kitchen as we all know can be a disaster zone at times. Maintenance is the keyword when it comes to this area at home. To avoid food spillage in the fridge use containers for storage. Aluminium foil in the oven does the same thing, and there is a foil available made from recycled material.
  • When you wash dishes by hand, use a gentle, eco-friendly Lilly's eco clean washing-up liquid that doesn't aggravate your skin or leave unwanted residue on your dishes. Always rinse your dishes after wash. Dishwasher is an environmentally friendly kitchen appliance to have since it uses less hot water per dish than when washing by hand so make the most of it; purchase kitchen ware that can be washed in a machine. Our All Purpose Spray Cleaner is a good cleaner for your fridge, microwave oven, stainless steel surfaces and it is safe to use around food.
  • Stubborn stains can be removed with Lilly's Degreaser; squirt some on the problem spot, leave it take effect for a while and wipe the dirt away. If you think that only dynamite can get rid of the worst horror of stains, try sprinkling some bread soda first on it before squirting the Degreaser, leave it sizzle for a while and Voila! Dirt is lifted. Same technique can be used in the oven, bath tub and all the hard surfaces in your home.
  • For glass and windows use Lilly's All Purpose Spray Cleaner. If you have been using conventional cleaners, they would have leaved a thin film on the surface of the window and washing with alternative cleaners might leave it looking streaky. All you have to do is make sure that the film is washed away properly.
  • For all the surfaces in your bathroom use Lilly's Spray Cleaner since it has anti-fungal properties and is good against both mould and lime scale build up. For your toilet bowl, choose a good quality brush and do remember to replace it every few months.
  • A lot of hype has been created over the years around bacteria, how we are supposed to kill them in our homes with harsh chemicals even though we are resistant to the most common ones. Bacteria are programmed to survive and spraying surfaces with strong cleaners make them only stronger. Your septic tank needs bacteria to function properly so choose a cleaner like Lilly's Toilet Cleaner with Tea Tree Oil for support.
  • De-clutter regularly- it is good to get rid of unwanted, unnecessary and old every ones in while. All the stuff we haven't needed for a long time, taking space and blocking the energy. Donate and recycle whenever possible. For your recycling there is great selection of stylish bins available.
  • To maintain your drains unblocked pour boiling hot water down them every week. Used coffee grains are an excellent grease remover for the drains and pipes. For clogged drains use a quarter cup of bread soda, couple of tablespoons of table salt and a full cup of distilled white vinegar - the resulting foaming action will clear the pipes in 20 minutes. Finish by pouring hot water down.
  • Pump up the volume! Choose you favourite music and pop & rock the dirt away. After burning calories with effective cleaning you can reward yourself; maybe a glass of wine and a bubble bath in your sparkling bathroom! Think positive when cleaning and notice how the good vibes uplifts everyone in the household.
